 Rape Suspect Escapes from Police Custody in Rivers State A male suspect, identified simply as Goodnews, who allegedly defiled a 16-year-old girl in the Rupokwu community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, last week, has escaped from police custody. The case was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt. It was gathered that the suspect escaped when the scene of the crime was visited as part of the investigation procedures. The suspect was earlier arrested by operatives of the Special Area Rumudomaya and transferred to the State CID, Port Harcourt, last week. According to the father of the alleged defilement victim, Mr. Prince, when they arrived at the scene of the crime, which is their compound, the suspect, who was not handcuffed by the Investigating Police Officer, was having difficulty opening the padlock on his door.  China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Visit Nigeria on Wednesday


China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, is set to arrive in Abuja on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for an official visit to Nigeria. The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and China.


Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will engage in high-level discussions during his stay. He is scheduled to meet with Nigeria's Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, on Thursday, January 9, for bilateral talks focused on enhancing cooperation, particularly in trade, infrastructure, and technology.


The visit will also include a courtesy call on President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where Wang Yi will deliver a special message from Chinese President Xi Jinping.


The announcement was made by the Acting spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who confirmed that Wang Yi will be received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed.


This visit is expected to further strengthen ties between the two nations and open new avenues for collaboration across various sectors.
