 CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. Speaking at a roundtable over the weekend, the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu said work has started on some of the toilets including identifying the locations for them.  Copa del Rey: 14 Clubs Advance to Round of 16 [Full List]


Fourteen teams have secured their spots in the Copa del Rey round of 16 following the conclusion of Sunday's round of 32 matches.


Elche delivered a commanding 4-0 victory over Las Palmas, with goals from Rodri Mendoza, David Affengruber, Jose Salinas, and Nicolas Fernandez to book their place in the next round.


Real Sociedad also progressed with a 2-0 win over Ponferradina, while Celta Vigo triumphed 3-2 over Racing.


Alongside Elche, Real Sociedad, and Celta Vigo, the following teams have qualified for the round of 16: Barcelona, Osasuna, Real Betis, Rayo Vallecano, Getafe, Ourense, Leganés, Almería, Atlético Madrid, Athletic Club, and Pontevedra.


Remaining round of 32 fixtures will be held today and tomorrow, including Real Madrid's match against Deportivo Minera on Monday night and Valencia's clash with Eldense.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
