  Embattled Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau says he will resign after new party leader chosen Justin Trudeau has said he intends to step down after nine years as Canadian prime minister in the face of a mounting set of crises, leaving office once a new ruling party leader is chosen. “I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister, after the party selects its new leader,” the 53-year-old leader told reporters at a news conference in Ottawa on Monday. “I care deeply about this country and I will always be motivated by what is in the best interests of Canadians. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume has called on youths in the state not to make themselves available to politicians to be used as tools.


He stated this at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Executive Director of Housing, Finance and Account, Federal Housing Authority, Dr Mathias Byuan on New Year’s Day in Agidi, Ugambe, Shangev Tiev, in Konshisha LGA of Benue State.


Senator Akume also reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu towards providing more dividends of democracy to Nigerians.


He rolled out the ongoing projects embarked on by the present administration across the state, such as the dualisation of the Makurdi/ Ninth Mile road and others, and tasked the youths to always request accountability of stewardship from the political class.


“The present administration of President Bola Timubu is committed to the well-being of Nigerians, the reason there are ongoing projects across the country.


“Several projects are also going on in the state, one of them is the dualisation of Makurdi/Ninth Mile road.


“False narratives are going on in the state but I charge the youths to always question their leaders you need to know that everything is done using the commonwealth of the people and should be spelt out clearly together with figures for easy understanding,” he said.


Also speaking at the occasion, former governor of the state, Samuel Ortom, who described Akume as an undisputable leader, father and benefactor said politics is a game of interest and above all to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.


Ortom appreciated the president for appointing Benue’s sons and daughters into positions of authority in his government.


While describing Byuan as a determined young man who shares a similar humble beginning at the motor park, Ortom thanked Senator Jacob Tilley Gyado for leading him through the path of industrialisation and finally prayed for God’s mercy and goodness to follow Akume now and forever.


Chairman of the occasion, Jacob Tilley Gyado who described Sen. Akume as the emancipator and political compass of Benue State called on the people to rally around him and President Tinubu to succeed.


He also appreciated the celebrant, Dr Mathias Terwase Byuan for his commitment and dedication to building the APC in the magnitude that surprised people.


Appreciating the people, Byuan pledged his loyalty to President Tinubu and Akume and added that the state has received a humongous allocation from the present administration and called on Governor Alia led administration to live up to his responsibility of delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state.


Byuan also unveiled the Mathias Byuan Community Empowerment Foundation for the less privileged in the state.


Earlier in his homily, the bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, His Lord Bishop, Isaac Dugu enjoined Christians to imbibe the virtues of love, and sustained prayer in the family for their children.


The Bishop emphasised that prayer is more powerful than an AK-47 riffle and admonished that prayers should be sustained for good mothers who are capable of holding the house.
