 NDC STATEMENT ON COURT RULING Our attention has been drawn to a ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja this morning, wherein His Lordship, Honourable Justice Isah Dashen, gave a ruling on an application filed by an unregistered association known as Peace Movement Party. The public knows that by December 2025, the Nigeria Democratic Congress  as an association complained of INEC’s refusal to register us as a political party, whereupon we proceeded to the Federal High Court. The Federal High Court upheld our constitutional right to freedom of association under the Constitution and compelled INEC to register us, which INEC did. Since then, we have started political activities, embarked on the registration of members, held congresses from ward to national levels, held conventions, and concluded primaries to all offices following INEC’s timetable.  Edo Governor Orders Investigation into Alleged DSS Assault on Journalists


Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered an investigation into the alleged assault on journalists by a Department of State Services (DSS) official during the Edo Governorship Election Tribunal proceedings at the High Court in Benin.


In a statement by the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chairman Festus Alenkhe and Secretary Andy Egbon commended Governor Okpebholo for his swift intervention, emphasizing his commitment to safeguarding the rights and safety of media practitioners.


“We are deeply grateful to Governor Okpebholo for his prompt response, which sends a strong message that attacks on journalists will not be tolerated in Edo State,” the statement read.


The NUJ acknowledged the governor’s directive for a thorough investigation by the security agency and praised his efforts to foster a secure environment for media practice in the state.


“As the governor continues to uphold the principles of democracy and the rule of law, we pledge our support for his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of journalists,” the NUJ stated.


The union also called on stakeholders to join the governor in promoting respect for media professionals and their fundamental rights.
