Machado's daughter receives Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of Venezuelan opposition leader The daughter of Venezuelan opposition leader MarĂa Corina Machado accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on Wednesday on her mother’s behalf, delivering a speech emphasizing the fight for freedom in her country. Machado has been in hiding since January, following a brief detention during a protest in Caracas, and was unable to attend the ceremony in person due to safety concerns. At the ceremony, Ana Corina Sosa, Machado’s daughter, read a message from her mother, saying, “She wants to live in a free Venezuela, and she will never give up on that purpose.” The Nobel committee confirmed Machado’s safety, noting that she had made every effort to attend despite extreme danger.
