Football: A Unifying Force, Says Obosi President General

By Chiedu Uche Okoye

The Obosi Development Union(ODU) President General,  Chimezie Obi (Esq) has said that football had become a tool for unifying the people of Obosi, who hail from different villages that make up the Obosi-inland town.

He made the comment when he presented a football trophy to the Indomitable Rams of Ire Village, the winners of the 2024 Obosi-inland town inter-village football competition.

Obi further said that the annual Obosi-inland town  inter-village football competition offers football coaches the opportunity to discover football talents, who would be nurtured to stardom and greatness.

He went down memory lane, stating, without equivocation, that Obosi town had, in the past, produced such great footballers as the late Ogidi Ibeabuchi, a one-time star player of  Rangers International FC of Enugu  and Arthur Ebunam, who was a member of the CKC of Onitsha world-conquering secondary school team.

The 2024 Obosi-inland town football competition was won by the Indomitable Rams of Ire village.

The team piped the Rivers Boys of Ugamuma 1-0 in a scintillating and tension-soaked match.

Earlier in the day, the Warriors of Mmakwum village walloped the Famine Fixers of Uruowulu village to take the bronze.

The 2024 edition of the Obosi-inland football competition was sponsored by the Energy Quest Oilfield Services; and the Obosi Forum For UK and Ireland bankrolled the expenses for the live-coverage/streaming of the matches.

While Spa Lavendar Suites sponsored the Indomitable Rams of Ire village, Omenife and Osodieme were the sponsors of the Rivers Boys of Ugamuma village, the team that won the silver trophy in the competition.

Mr. Eric Anyamene, a political aide of Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, sponsored the Warriors of Mmakwum village while Kofi Don Mechiano sponsored the Famine Fixers of Uruowulu village.

And the Royalty Stars of Umuota, which were the whipping team in the competition, were sponsored by Nwabunike Umuezechime.
