 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Four feared dead, others injured as driver rams into soldiers in Lagos


Four soldiers attached to the Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu in Lagos are feared dead, while others sustained injuries after a suspected drunk driver crashed into them.

It was gathered that the soldiers were doing their morning marching parade when the incident happened Friday morning.

According to reports, the Toyota vehicle had three young men as the occupants.


Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with injured soldiers scattered across the road.

“There’s blood everywhere. I was spared because I was at the back,” said one of the soldiers who survived the accident.

According to sources, the vehicle involved was carrying three young men believed to be Yahoo Boys (internet fraudsters). The driver lost control and rammed into the unit near the Myoung Barracks Army Sports Camp.


One of the occupants fled the scene immediately, while the other two were caught and beaten to a pulp by an angry mob. Their vehicle was also vandalized in the aftermath of the crash.

The accident has caused widespread concern among soldiers and their families, with many desperately trying to confirm the status of their loved ones.
