 ASSAULT ON TODDLER: LASG EVOKES CHILD RIGHTS ACT … Teacher Remanded In Kirikiri The Lagos State Government has evoked the Child Rights Act and the Lagos State Policy on Safeguarding and Child Protection against Mrs. Stella Nwadigbo, a Teacher at Christ Mitots Nursery and Primary School at Agric, Ikorodu, for indecent treatment of a toddler and pupil of the School, Master Abayomi Michael. Mrs. Nwadigbo was seen unlawfully and indecently assaulting the three-year-old pupil in a viral video on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, smacking the child in the face repeatedly for struggling with a lesson. The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in its fact-finding mission, visited the School, which was approved in 2010, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, but discovered it was partially self-shut down and pupils asked to stay back at home till Monday, January 13, 2025.  SANWO-OLU CELEBRATES AIYEDATIWA AT 60 


The Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated his Ondo State counterpart, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, describing him as a passionate public officer.


Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, praised Aiyedatiwa’s commitment and dedication to serving the people of Ondo State in different capacities.


He said since Governor Aiyedatiwa, a successful businessman, joined partisan politics in 2011, he had made a valuable impact in the lives of many people as well as the ruling party in Ondo State and Nigeria.


Governor Sanwo-Olu said Aiyedatiwa, who clocks 60 tomorrow, has used his position as Federal Commissioner, who represented Ondo State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission from 2018 to 2019, to attract development to Ondo State and different parts of Nigeria.


He said: "On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Lagos State, I congratulate my dear brother, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on his 60th birthday. 


"Governor Aiyedatiwa's contributions to the progress, growth and development of Ondo State, formerly as Deputy Governor, Acting Governor, and now Governor, are a pragmatic testament to his visionary leadership and passion for public service. 


"As a Deputy Governor, he was a dependable and trusted partner to his boss, the immediate past Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), and till date the developmental strides of their teamwork are noticeable in different areas of endeavour. 


"Since he assumed office as Governor in December 2023, the Aiyedatiwa administration has made positive changes in the Sunshine State, impacting lives and delivering the dividends of democracy to the citizens.


"On this landmark occasion of Governor Aiyedatiwa's Diamond Jubilee celebration, I wish him more years in good health and sound mind. I pray that God will give Governor Aiyedatiwa more wisdom and strength to enable him to render more service to Ondo State.”

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
