ALIA Governor Hyacinth Alia expresses concern over the displacement of over 1,000 households due to recent attacks by armed invaders Benue State currently hosts 500,182 displaced persons, facing inadequate shelter and limited access to essential services in various camps. Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia on Thursday raised concerns over the displacement of over 1,000 households due to recent attacks by armed invaders in rural areas of the state. The governor disclosed this during a meeting with the Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Nigeria, Paula Pace, and Alexandre Castellano, Head of the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation, at the Government House in Makurdi. Governor Alia highlighted the urgent need for collective action to address the crisis and foster peace in affected communities.  SANWO-OLU CONGRATULATES INDUSTRIALIST, RASAQ OKOYA AT 85 


 

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has felicitated the billionaire industrialist and Chairman of the Eleganza Group, Chief Rasaq Akanni Okoya, on his 85th birthday celebration. 


He said the renowned business magnate and philanthropist, who will be 85 tomorrow, Sunday, is worth celebrating for his life of consistent commitment and contribution to the economy and livelihood of many Nigerians, particularly in Lagos State, where many of his companies are located. 


 

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said Chief Okoya, the Aare of Lagos, has contributed to the growth of Nigeria’s economy, provided jobs for many Nigerians through his investments and has spread to other African market.


 

He said: “On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Lagos State, I join family, friends and business associates to celebrate the Chairman of the Eleganza Group and the RAO Property Investment Company, Chief Rasaq Akanni Okoya, on his 85th birthday celebration. He is one of Nigeria’s business magnates and philanthropists that are impacting lives positively. 


 

“The Aare of Lagos is a generous man who has given hope through philanthropic gestures to the less privileged in the society. He has given scholarships to many people, particularly the young people, to further their education and also provided funds to many people to start small businesses.


"I wish Chief Okoya the best on his 85th birthday. I pray that God will grant him a longer life, strength, and sound health to continue to continuously enjoy the dividends of his long years of investment.”

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
