#GreaterLagosCountdown2025: ‘It’s pride, arrogance,’ funseekers slam Burna Boy for storming out of stage

Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has faced backlash following his unexpected departure from the stage during his performance at the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 on Tuesday.

In a video that went viral on Wednesday, a fan was seen jumping on stage to approach Burna Boy during the much-anticipated event in Lagos.

Security personnel swiftly intervened, throwing the fan off the stage, while the artist briefly paused his performance.

Moments later, Burna Boy was seen leaving the stage without any prior announcement or explanation, leaving fans shocked and disappointed.

The abrupt exit has, however, sparked a wave of criticism on social media, with many expressing their dismay.

While some fans accused Burna Boy of unprofessionalism, others attributed his action to arrogance.

A user on X, bra MaL, who tweets as #ibrahimmalcolm, attributed the singer’s actions to pride, stating, “Just pride and arrogance, somewhat disrespect to the very audience he’s ‘performing’ for.”

Another user, Mezia Abia, tweeting as #MeziaAbia, wrote, “If not pride, what is it? Hold on a second. Someone paid you for a show, you delivered your own side of the job halfway because a fan jumped on the stage to touch you.

“I’m yet to understand the rationale behind him leaving the stage in such an awful way. Does Burna Boy not get touched by humans?”

Kodark Taylor, tweeting as #KodarkTayl69356, added, “Very rude guy.”

However, some netizens defended Burna Boy, blaming fans for repeatedly ignoring his warnings against jumping on stage during his performances.

Chukwudi Emmanuel, tweeting as #LoganSaman50828, commented, “Why people no dey hear word! En don talk am severally, make dem no try dey jump on stage when en dey there. Why people no dey hear word? En get luck say no be uppercut dem give am.”

Another user, MANDU RIO 𓃵 tweeting as #_MrPreye stated, “Folks don’t learn. Stop jumping on stage. Fans love, yes. Respect Yourself enough to stay put.”

As of now, Burna Boy has yet to issue an official statement addressing the situation.
