 A priest in Anambra State wedded a couple yesterday, despite disputes with the bride’s father In a video circulating online, the Reverend Father narrated that The father of the bride who is from Nteje had insisted that the wedding should not take place unless his daughter swøre never to associate with his mother whom he has a quarrel with. The conflict arose from past marriage issues between the father and her mother. Before the wedding, the father repeatedly met with the priest, warning that he had already taken the bride's mother to a deity and that the girl must follow him to the shrine to appease that deity before the marriage can go on. For peace to prevail, the priest advised the couple to comply with all the father’s requests so the wedding could proceed, the priest even donated some of the items that the brides father told her to bring to use in appeasing the deity.  INEC seeks additional funding from FG ahead of 2027 General Elections


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is seeking additional funding from the Federal Government in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This was revealed by the commission’s Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu while appearing before the Joint Committee on Electoral Matters at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Friday, to defend the commission’s 2025 budget proposal.


Prof. Yakubu explained the need for additional funding to support key areas of INEC’s work. He listed the areas needing the funding to include the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, logistics for off-cycle elections, replacing damaged election materials like Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems (BVAS), Ballot Boxes, and Voting cubicles, as well as repairing INEC offices in Local Government Areas.


He stated that 2025 is a crucial year for preparing for the 2027 General Elections and stressed the importance of receiving funds on time to ensure smooth operations. INEC remains dedicated to strengthening the electoral process and sustaining democracy in Nigeria.


This is as the commission earlier clarified that it did not intend to destroy the over six million uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) going back to the 2015 voter registration. ‘The report is incorrect,” it wrote, adding that at no time did it contemplate the destruction of uncollected PVCs.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
