 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  LAUTECH Students Protest Over Lecturer Absences and Rising Transportation Costs


On January 20, 2025, students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, staged a protest against the ongoing absence of their lecturers. The Iseyin campus, which houses the College of Agriculture, was established by Governor Seyi Makinde as part of Oyo State's educational initiative.


The students voiced their frustration over the repeated absence of lecturers who travel from the Ogbomoso campus, and also expressed concern over the increased transportation and accommodation costs since the resumption of classes after the last holiday.


One anonymous student shared that agriculture department students were also protesting the lack of necessary facilities at their farms and raising concerns about transportation and housing costs. The students are calling on the state government and the education committee to intervene and resolve the issues promptly.
