 Sao Tome and Principe president dismisses government Sao Tome and Principe's president has dismissed the government over an "inability" to resolve problems facing the African state and "frequent" absences by the prime minister, AFP reported. The decision by President Carlos Vila Nova was announced in a decree dated Monday and published on the presidency's Facebook page. It highlighted a "notable inability" by Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada's government "to provide solutions" to the country in the face of "the scale of existing problems." It also pointed to "frequent and prolonged periods of absence by the prime minister... from the national territory."  Nigerian gospel icon Nathaniel Bassey invited to Trump’s inaugural prayer breakfast


Renowned Nigerian pastor and gospel minister, Nathaniel Bassey, has received a prestigious invitation to minister at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

The event, set for January 20, 2025, in Washington, D.C., will precede the swearing-in ceremony of Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance.


The gathering, which is a non-governmental and non-political affair, will be hosted by Reverend Merrie Turner.


In 2024, he was honoured by the Mayor of Albany, New York, who declared October 6 as “Pastor Nathaniel Bassey Day” in recognition of his contributions to gospel music and his positive impact on communities worldwide.


The Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast is a long-standing tradition that brings together leaders from various faith backgrounds to pray for the President and the nation. Pastor Bassey's participation in this event is a significant milestone for Nigeria, as it showcases the country's rich Christian heritage and its contribution to the global Christian community.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
