  Oshiomhole Convinced Us To Make Obaseki Governor – Philip Shaibu Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has disclosed that his choice to support his former boss, Godwin Obaseki, stemmed from his respect for Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Naija News, Shaibu shared his doubts about Obaseki during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm program on Tuesday. Shaibu admitted that he lacked confidence in Obaseki's leadership even before they took office on November 12, 2016. He explained that despite his initial hesitations, he ultimately backed Obaseki out of respect and based on the assurances provided by Oshiomhole. He stated, “Obaseki is not a politician.  NSC announces Elite Athletes Development and Podium Board

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has unveiled the composition of its Elite Athletes Development and Podium Board, with former Nigerian international Yusuf Ali appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In a statement signed by NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, the board has been tasked with establishing a sustainable system for elite athletes' development and welfare in Nigeria.


The 13-member committee includes notable experts and sports professionals, including Mr. Bambo Akanni of Making of Champions, who will serve as a consultant and member. Prof. Ken Anugweje joins as an adviser and member, alongside Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, Salihu Abubakar, Aku Aghazu, Tunde Adelakun, and Prof. Sadiq Abdulahi. Also on the committee are former Olympian Mary Onyali, Hauwa Kulu Akinyemi, Sunday Odebode, and Olalekan Alabi. Bamiduro Olumide will serve as Secretary.


According to Hon. Olopade, the members were carefully selected for their expertise to ensure sustainable success for Nigeria in international competitions through a scientific reward system. “This initiative, under the Chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko, is designed to professionally manage athletes’ welfare and training grants,” he stated.


The DG further emphasized the board’s role in empowering potential athletes to achieve podium success for the country, describing it as part of the Commission's broader Renewed Hope Initiative for the Nigerian sports economy. The move is expected to mark a new chapter in the nation's sports development and elite athlete management.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
