The Mayor of Onitsha North LGA, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, has commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for the launch of "Operation Udo Ga-Achi," a comprehensive security initiative aimed at bolstering safety across the state.
The initiative, unveiled at the International Conference Center in Awka, is designed to safeguard the lives and property of Ndi Anambra and visitors, addressing the state's evolving security challenges.
Mayor Nwora described "Operation Udo Ga-Achi," also known as "Agunaechemba," as a transformative step in combating insecurity, highlighting its focus on collaboration between local and federal security agencies to deliver robust protection for citizens.
Applauding Governor Soludo for signing a new homeland security law, which provides a legal framework for the initiative, the Mayor emphasized the law's importance in reinforcing the fight against criminal activities.
The initiative incorporates advanced technological measures such as aerial surveillance and targeted operations to dismantle criminal hideouts. Mayor Nwora also lauded the Anambra State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Somotochukwu Udeze, for their proactive role in passing the law to enhance security in the state.
Under his leadership, Onitsha North LGA has witnessed significant security improvements through partnerships with local security forces, including the Onitsha North Solution Strike Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
To further strengthen safety, the LGA has introduced innovative measures such as the installation of street gates and barricades at strategic locations. These enhancements, particularly effective at night, assist security personnel in crime prevention and monitoring.
Mayor Nwora reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and businesses in Onitsha North, expressing confidence that the continued collaboration between local authorities, security agencies, and the deployment of cutting-edge technology would mark a new era of security in the region.
