 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Suleja Fire: Southern Governors’ Forum Condoles Niger Gov


Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the tanker fire explosion in Suleja, Niger State, which claimed 77 lives and injured 25 others, as a devastating tragedy.


In a statement, Abiodun expressed condolences to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, his cabinet, and the people of Niger State, urging them to remain resilient despite the tragic loss. He prayed for the victims’ souls to rest in peace and for the speedy recovery of the injured.


Abiodun emphasized the need for stricter traffic rule enforcement to prevent similar avoidable tragedies and warned against scooping fuel from fallen tankers. He also called on federal and state agencies to intensify efforts in managing the aftermath and urged the Federal Government to support Niger State during this challenging time.
