 Nigerian Association for Family Development releases communique on 18 biennial conference held in Awka By Chris Chikelue The Nigerian Association For Family Development (NAFAD) has made public the communique made at the 18th Biennial conference  themed: 'Marriage as a Vocation- Flourishing Despite Modern Challenges'. The communique which was issued on March 30, 2025 at the Bishop AK Obiefuna  Retreat and Pastoral Centre, Okpunor, Awka, Anambra State was signed by NAFAD National President, Mr. Uche Okpala and its National Secretary,  Mrs Tayo Akinyede. It was a gathering that brought together couples, relationship experts, and singles to explore practical ways to strengthen marriages and address contemporary relationship challenges. According to the communique the event emphasized that marriage is a sacred vocation—a call to total self-giving, sacrifice, and shared purpose in building resilient families.  SWIMMING POOL ACCIDENT: LASG SHUTS SCHOOL, COMMENCES INVESTIGATION


The attention of the Lagos State Safety Commission has been drawn to the swimming pool accident that occurred at Smiley Kids Montessori, Heritage Place Estate, Sangotedo, Lagos, on Wednesday, 15th January 2025, which led to the death of a two-year-old female, Rapheala Ogbodo.


The officials of the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education have visited the scene of the accident to carry out a preliminary investigation and ascertain the root cause of the unfortunate incident.


While the school is presently under lock pending further investigation, the State Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the victim and expresses its commitment to preventing future occurrences.


The Director-General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, stated that all school owners and caregivers must comply with safety regulations to prevent accidents in the State.


Mojola further stated that further information would be made available upon completion of investigations into the accident.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up. The Appellant is an actor. He acted in a script that he was invited to act by his colleague (PW1), Damilola Adekoya,” he said.
