 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room. The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, has reaffirmed the readiness of troops to confront the Lakurawa terrorist group operating along the Nigeria-Niger border.

This commitment was reiterated during an operational visit to the tactical headquarters of the DHQ Special Operations Brigade in Balle, Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State, according to a statement by the operation’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi.

Addressing the troops, Major General Soyele stressed the critical importance of their mission, emphasizing the necessity of unwavering commitment to Operation Flush Lakurawa Out.

He described the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity as “non-negotiable” and urged the troops to remain vigilant and resolute in their efforts to dismantle the terrorist group, which poses significant threats to peace and security in border communities.

The Theatre Commander also reached out to local communities, seeking their active cooperation in the ongoing fight against terrorism. He highlighted the vital role of local support in ensuring the success of military operations and called for a strong partnership between residents and security forces.

According to General Soyele, intelligence sharing and collaboration with communities are essential to effectively counter insurgency and establish lasting peace in the region.

He encouraged residents to work closely with the military, fostering a united front to eliminate threats and enhance operational success.
