 So Linus Williams (Blord) has been released from Kuje prison after fulfilling his bail conditions, finally, freedom after a few weeks in custody. However, here’s the current position of his case:  He is still expected to show up and stand his trial.  If he fails to appear in court even for one day, his bail can be revoked and a bench warrant may be issued against him, meaning a return to Kuje. If the prosecution cannot prove the charges against him, he will be discharged and acquitted. If the prosecution proves the charges, he may be sentenced and sent back to Kuje. I think he should seek a peaceful resolution to the case. Congrats to him on his freedom for now.

 CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOLS: LAGOS ORGANISES MAIDEN SPORTS FESTIVAL FOR STUDENTS


As part of its commitment to providing a holistic educational experience for students, the Lagos State Government organises the maiden edition of the Schools' Sports Festival, a momentous occasion that marks the inception of a new era in Schools' across the State.


Speaking at the grand finale of the event, held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Centre, Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, stated that education is not just about academics, but about developing the whole child, intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially and as such, pitched sports and physical education at playing a vital role in this process. 


In his words, "The importance of Sports in Schools' cannot be overstated. Through sports, students develop essential life skills like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. They learn valuable lessons about hard work, dedication, and fair play. They build their confidence, self-esteem, and physical fitness.They also forge lasting bonds with their peers, creating memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. 


“This Maiden Sports Festival is designed to promote exceptional values and provide students with platforms to showcase their innate talents, skills, and sportsmanship while competing in various sports and games, including track and field events, team sports, and individual competitions”. 


He added that the Sports Festival is not solely about competition but also about participation, enjoyment, and camaraderie. It is about creating a sense of community and school spirit and promoting a culture of physical activity and wellness. 


Alli-Balogun expressed his profound gratitude to Teachers, Coaches, and Staff who worked relentlessly to make the event a success and urged students to participate fully, give their best, support their teammates, likewise opponents with sportsmanship and respect, adding that the true spirit of sports is not just about winning, but about learning, growing, and having fun.


At the end of the event, Education District I clinched the first position in the Senior category with 17 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 4 bronze medals, while Education District lV garnered 4 gold medals, 4 silvers and 4 bronze medals in the Primary category to claim the first position.


The epoch-making event was attended by the Chairman, LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu; TG/PS Education Districts l, IV, V and Vl, Prince Bashir Adebowale, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike, Mr. Abiodun Hassan and Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuf respectively; Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical And Vocational Education Board, Ms. Ronke Azeez; LASUBEB’s Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Lamidi; Directors in the Ministry, Students, Teachers, Parents/Guardians and other stakeholders in the education sector.
