A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former NHIS Executive Secretary, Usman Yusuf, who is facing corruption charges filed by the EFCC. The charges include embezzlement, abuse of office, and improper contract awards, with allegations of inflated purchases and unauthorized deals.
Yusuf, who had been remanded at Kuje Correctional Facility, claims the case is politically motivated, linking his arrest to his criticism of President Tinubuās policies. He described his detention as a crackdown on dissenters and highlighted poor conditions in Kuje Prison.
The EFCC dismissed his claims as diversionary, insisting that Yusuf had refused to cooperate with investigations. With bail granted, the trial is set to continue.
