A fire outbreak on Tuesday night devastated the community market at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, destroying multiple shops and causing significant losses for traders and students.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire originated in four shops before rapidly spreading across the Maami Market, a key commercial hub for students and staff. The affected area housed computer centers, restaurants, clothing shops, and other essential businesses.
Despite the swift response from the university’s fire service, the flames had already inflicted severe damage before being brought under control.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the incident.
