 Romanian court hands US rapper Wiz Khalifa nine-month sentence for drug possession  An American rapper has been sentenced to nine months in prison by a Romanian court more than a year after a high-profile incident at a summer music festival along the country’s Black Sea coast. Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was convicted Thursday of illegal drug possession stemming from his appearance at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinesti in July 2024. Authorities said the artist was stopped by police after allegedly smoking cannabis on stage during his performance and was found to be carrying more than 18 grams of the drug. Prosecutors argued that part of the substance was consumed publicly while he was performing, an act that drew widespread attention at the time. The ruling overturned a lighter penalty imposed earlier this year, when a lower court issued Khalifa a criminal fine of 3,600 lei, roughly $830.  Gov. Soludo Celebrates Anambra Winners of 2024 President's Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has applauded the recipients of the 2024 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards for their outstanding achievements.  


This commendation was conveyed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a reception for the awardees at the Udorji Secretariat Complex, Awka.  


Addressing the awardees, Prof. Chuma-Udeh emphasized the governor’s immense pride in their accomplishments, noting that their victories at the prestigious award ceremony, held at Eagle Square, Abuja, have brought great honor to the state. She highlighted that the true essence of winning such an award goes beyond its monetary value, rather, it is the recognition and elevation by divine grace above one's peers.  


"The fact that, out of many contenders, you were chosen for this honor is something to be deeply grateful for," she remarked. She urged the awardees to remain diligent, avoid complacency, and strive for even greater achievements, as this milestone marks just the beginning of their career successes.  


At the award ceremony held last year, Anambra teachers shone brightly, with Mr. Nwosu Joseph Afamefuna from Government Technical School, Osomalla, clinching the coveted Overall Best Teacher in Nigeria award, an honor that came with a brand-new car. 


Additionally, Dr. Mrs. Grace Umezinwa, Principal of Girls High School, Ugah, secured the Ist Runner-up Best Administrator, Senior Secondary Category award, while Mrs. Francisca Chukwudumebi of Afoigwe Primary School, Umudioka, emerged as the 2nd Best School Administrator, Primary School Category. Holy Child Secondary School, Isuofia, was recognized as the Best Private School in Nigeria  


A key highlight of the event was the distribution of Lenovo laptops to the awardees by Prof. Chuma-Udeh and the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake. 


The event was attended by top officials including the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu.
