 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. IGP DECORATES 3 NEWLY PROMOTED ASSISTANT INSPECTORS-GENERAL OF POLICE, 16 COMMISSIONERS OF POLICE.


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today, Thursday 20th February 2025, at the Goodluck Jonathan International Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja, decorated nineteen (19) Senior Police Officers with their new ranks amidst cheers from families, friends, and well-wishers.


The decoration ceremony saw the elevation of three (3) Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. The newly decorated AIGs include AIG Garba Ahmed, AIG Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo, and AIG Salman Garba Dogo.


In addition, sixteen (16) Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police. The decorated CPs include CP Cyriacus Enechukwu, CP Gombit Bangs, CP Rosemary Akpan, CP Ayodele Adeyemi, among others. The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Prince Ma Sani-Omolori; Former Clerk to the National Assembly (The Ciroma of Ebira Land), Mr. Nebeolisa Anako; Former Permanent Secretary of the Police Service Commission, DIG Valentine Ntomchukwu(rtd.), as well as members of the Force Management Team, serving and retired Senior Police Officers, and families of the promotees.


The Inspector-General of Police applauded the newly promoted officers and charged them to diligently discharge the responsibilities of their new ranks. He urged them to leverage their extensive knowledge of policing in safeguarding the country, in strict adherence to the Rule of Law, as the Nigeria Police Force continues to emplace strategies toward a more secure nation and national development.
