Imposter Unmasked: Fake Gynecologist Caught in Umuahia

A shocking case of medical impersonation has come to light in Abia State, where a woman posed as a gynecologist and Chief Medical Director (CMD) at Echoes of God's Mercy & Grace Mission Specialist Hospital in Umuahia.

Miriam Ugochi Emenike allegedly used forged credentials to secure employment at the hospital in 2023, despite concerns raised by staff over her qualifications. Her fraudulent activities were only exposed after multiple medical malpractice cases were reported under her care, including the administration of incorrect medications that led to a miscarriage and a patient's death.

An investigation by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) revealed that Emenike's name was absent from the official registry of licensed medical practitioners, and that the folio number she used for employment belonged to another doctor.

Emenike has been charged with forgery, impersonation, and obtaining employment under false pretenses. She is currently facing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The case has sparked outrage in the medical community, with experts calling for stricter verification processes to prevent unqualified individuals from practicing medicine and endangering patients' lives
