CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. INDIA: A BRIDES FAMILY CALLED OFF THE WEDDING DUE TO THE GROOM'S LOW CREDIT INFORMATION BUREAU LIMITED SCORE. (PHOTO).

In a surprising turn of events, a brideā€™s family in Murtizapur, Maharashtra, called off the wedding due to the groomā€™s low Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited (CIBIL) score.

The wedding talks were almost finalized, with both families in agreement. However, just before the marriage was set to be confirmed, the brideā€™s maternal uncle made an unexpected request ā€“ he wanted to check the groomā€™s CIBIL score.

The report revealed that the groom had multiple loans and was struggling with his finances. Concerned about their daughterā€™s future, the brideā€™s family decided to call off the wedding immediately. ā€œWhy marry a boy who is already drowning in debt?ā€ the brideā€™s uncle argued, with the rest of the family agreeing with his concerns. As a result, the marriage talks ended abruptly.

Traditionally, arranged marriages in India have focused on factors such as horoscope matching and family backgrounds. However, this incident highlights the growing importance of financial credibility in marriage decisions. In this case, the groomā€™s financial struggles were seen as a dealbreaker, and the family prioritized financial stability over other traditional considerations.

This case underscores how financial responsibility is now being added to the list of factors considered in marriage decisions. Itā€™s clear that a low CIBIL score might have wider consequences than just affecting loan approvals ā€“ it could also impact personal relationships and marriage prospects.
