  Abakaliki, Ebonyi State - In a shocking move, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the arrest of six commissioners and the suspension of the Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Nwachi, over alleged involvement in a breach of contract for the construction of 140 housing units for Izzo and Amaze communities. The affected commissioners, who were declared wanted by the state government before their arrest, are: - Professor Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education) - Victor Chukwu (Environment) - Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism) - Uchenna Igwe (Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters) - Moses Ekuma (Health) - Felix Igboke (Project Monitoring) According to the Chairman of the State Executive Council Committee on Izzo and Amaze Housing Project, Ilang Donatus, the governor took the action due to the slow pace of work on the project, which was intended to be completed in time for his two-year anniversary in office.  Manufacturers Support Tax Reforms, Demand Action Against Illegal Levies


The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has praised the Federal Government for introducing four executive bills aimed at overhauling tax administration while urging a crackdown on illegal levies imposed by non-state actors.


Speaking on Thursday at the House of Representatives Committee on Public Finance’s public hearing on the tax bills in Abuja, MAN President Francis Meshioye described the reforms as timely, emphasizing that their proper implementation would enhance Nigeria’s fiscal and tax administration.


“The tax bills are timely, and we believe their implementation will set new standards in tax administration across the country. However, we also urge an end to the coercive tactics of non-state actors,” Meshioye stated.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
