 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. PRESS BRIEFING BY THE CP, KANO STATE COMMAND, ON THE SECURITY SITUATION OF THE STATE AND BREAKTHROUGHS RECORDED BY THE COMMAND IN TACKLING EMERGING SECURITY THREATS. (PHOTOS). #PRESS RELEASE.

 PRESS BRIEFING BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, KANO STATE COMMAND, CP SALMAN DOGO GARBA ON THE SECURITY SITUATION OF THE STATE AND BREAKTHROUGHS RECORDED BY THE COMMAND IN TACKLING EMERGING SECURITY THREATS, HELD ON 31ST JANUARY, 2025 AT BOMPAI POLICE HEADQUARTERS, KANO

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press;

Thank you for honouring our invitation today for this important briefing regarding the security situation of Kano State. I want to use this opportunity to keep you informed about recent breakthroughs and the proactive measures being taken by the Kano State Police Command in our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of the State.

2.  You will recall that on 24th January, 2025, the Command released a security alert, calling on the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious person or item to the authority following series of intelligence reports from various intelligence agencies about the presence of suspected terrorists in the State. Acting on one of the intelligence reports, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered with discreet investigations in progress. Also, a wanted suspected terrorist, Ahmad Adam Abba, a Chadian National, who masterminded the killing of seventeen (17) people in Republic of Chad, was identified planning to set a terrorists base in Kano.

3.  The wanted Chadian suspected terrorist escaped out of Nigeria and we have successfully apprehended three of the suspect’s associates, including his wife, another Chadian named Jibrin Mohammed, 42 years old, and a Nigerian. They were arrested following a thorough investigation and intelligence-led policing, and are currently in custody with investigation ongoing.

4.  I am pleased to announce that the Command have made significant progress in our efforts to dismantle these networks and neutralize any potential risks as there is no hiding place for criminals in the State. In addition to the aforementioned arrests, we have ramped up our intelligence-gathering efforts across various places. Our teams are collaborating closely with other intelligence agencies and the communities to ensure that we are working hand-in-hand to identify any suspicious activities and individuals who may pose a security threat to our society.

5.  Furthermore, patrols have been intensified, and surveillance measures have been enhanced in key areas known to be vulnerable. The Command through its public relations unit will continue conducting awareness programs to educate the public on the importance of reporting suspicious activities. It is vital that we foster trust and cooperation between the Police and the communities we serve, as this partnership is essential in combating crime and preventing any likely emerging security threats.

6.  While appreciating the continued support of the Kano State Government and the good people of the State, I also reassure members of the public that we are fully committed to maintaining peace and order in the State as your safety is paramount.

7.  In closing, I encourage everyone to continue to cooperate with the Police and be proactive in providing valuable information that will aid in surmounting any likely emerging security threat.

8.  Thank you and God bless you all.
