Tension is rising at the Lagos State House of Assembly as Speaker Mojisola Meranda faces mounting pressure to resign, sources have revealed. Reports indicate that her resignation could be tendered as early as today to facilitate the return of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker.
The political standoff escalated when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly stormed the Assembly complex, sealing off Meranda’s office. Heavily armed security personnel have also been deployed around the premises in Alausa, Ikeja, intensifying the already charged atmosphere.
This development follows the controversial impeachment of former Speaker Obasa, a move that has continued to fuel division within the House. Obasa has persistently rejected his impeachment, labeling it illegal and unconstitutional.
According to Daily Trust, President Bola Tinubu may step in to mediate the crisis, potentially clearing the path for Obasa’s reinstatement.
As the situation unfolds, political observers are closely watching how events at the Lagos Assembly will shape the state's leadership and legislative future.
