 CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. Speaking at a roundtable over the weekend, the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu said work has started on some of the toilets including identifying the locations for them.  River in Argentina turns bright red

A river in a suburb of Buenos Aires in Argentina has turned red, sparking concern among residents.Footage and images of the Sarandi watercourse - which flows into the Rio de la Plata estuary - show the sudden change in colourIt is not the first time it has changed colour, according to local media reports, with residents raising fears of contamination."I have lived here all my life. Today, we have this red water. It has been grey, it has been green, it has been violet, bluish... very brown," one resident told La Nacion."On other days we have a thick yellow layer that left the top hard and had an acidic smell," another local told Pagina 12.Officials have been to the site to take away samples of the red water for testing.The region's environment ministry told La Nacion samples of the water would be analysed to find out what "is causing the discolouration".Video Source:@cnn on TikTok

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
