Two Killed in Early Morning Road Accident in Awka

An early morning accident in Awka, Anambra State, claimed the lives of a driver and a loader on Friday around 6 AM.

The victims, both employees of Anambra Comfort Line, were loading luggage into a Sienna vehicle at their loading bay, preparing for a trip to Lagos, when the incident occurred.

According to an eyewitness, a Lexus 350 RX, driven by a young man with a female passenger, lost control while speeding along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway and crashed into the Sienna’s trunk, killing the two men instantly.

The witness added that while some injured victims were taken to the hospital, the Lexus driver and his companion escaped unhurt. However, he dismissed the driver’s claim of brake failure, suspecting that distraction, fatigue, or alcohol may have caused the crash.

Angered by the accident, friends of the deceased attempted to attack the young driver, accusing him of reckless driving. It took the intervention of park owners and police officers to protect him and his passenger from being lynched. They were eventually taken into police custody for their safety.
