62-year-old Stephanie Dowells Brinson was visiting her husband David Brinson at Mule Creek State Prison in November of 2024. Officials say that around 2 a.m. David Brinson told officers Stephanie had passed out.
Stephanie was being allowed to visit Brinson in an apartment style facility on prison grounds used for conjugal or family visitations. These visits are allowed for spouses, parents and children and can last 30 to 40 hours.
Upon learning Stephanie had 'passed out' officers immediately began lifesaving measures. Eventually paramedics showed up and Stephanie was sadly pronounced deceased.
Now, four months later, Amador County Coroner has ruled the death a homicide saying Stephanie lost her life due to manual strangulation.
David Brinson is serving four life sentences for the 1993 murders of 4 individuals in 1993.
The death of Stephanie Dowells Brinson is under investigation and no charges have been brought against David Brinson yet. The district attorney stated he will be presenting charges after the prison completes their full report and investigation. It has been reported Brinson has been transferred to a California Health Care Facility for incarcerated individuals with long term medical issues or mental health needs.
The family of Stephanie Dowells Brinson is demanding justice and claiming the prison should be held accountable.
Our thoughts are with the loved ones of Stephanie.
