 Republic of Congo holds presidential election, internet disruption reported Internet connectivity across the Republic of Congo was disrupted on Sunday as voters cast ballots in a presidential election, global internet watchdog NetBlocks said. Network data indicated a nation-scale disruption to internet access, the watchdog said on X. A similar near-total nationwide internet blackout was recorded during the country’s March 2021 presidential election, lasting about three days, according to NetBlocks. Polls opened at 6 am (0500GMT) in the country’s presidential election and will remain open until 6 pm (1700GMT). More than 2.6 million registered voters aged 18 and above are eligible to cast their ballots. AKWA IBOM POLICE ARREST MAN FOR ALLEGED MURDER OF WIFE. (PHOTOS).


 

A 42-year-old man, Victor Okoh, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for the alleged gruesome murder of his 38-year-old wife, Victoria Okoh, at their residence in Oron Local Government Area.


According to DSP Timfon John, the command's Public Relations Officer, the arrest was made following a distress call from concerned residents of the area. The police operatives stormed the building at about 5 am and arrested the suspect, who was hiding under the ceiling to evade arrest.


Preliminary investigations revealed that Victor Okoh allegedly attacked his wife with a machete over accusations of infidelity. The police recovered the machete used in the crime and deposited the corpse at the General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy.


The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, condemned the act and assured the public that justice will take its full course. He emphasized the command's commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and warned against all forms of domestic violence, urging residents to seek lawful means of resolving disputes.


The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
