 A priest in Anambra State wedded a couple yesterday, despite disputes with the bride’s father In a video circulating online, the Reverend Father narrated that The father of the bride who is from Nteje had insisted that the wedding should not take place unless his daughter swøre never to associate with his mother whom he has a quarrel with. The conflict arose from past marriage issues between the father and her mother. Before the wedding, the father repeatedly met with the priest, warning that he had already taken the bride's mother to a deity and that the girl must follow him to the shrine to appease that deity before the marriage can go on. For peace to prevail, the priest advised the couple to comply with all the father’s requests so the wedding could proceed, the priest even donated some of the items that the brides father told her to bring to use in appeasing the deity.  ANAMBRA POLICE TO PARTNER WITH SPORTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (SWAN) TO ORGANIZE SPORTS COMPETITIONS WITH MARKET COMMUNITY/RELEVANT STAKEHOLDERS TO ENHANCE RELATIONSHIP WITH MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC


The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, while receiving members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Anambra State Chapter today 17th March 2025 in his office at Awka, proposes to partner with SWAN to organise sports competitions with the market community and relevant stakeholders to enhance the Police's relationship with the public, thus promoting a sense of community bonding and trust. 

 

The CP noted that this initiative is a great way to promote social cohesion and improve communication between law enforcement and the public.  According to the CP, this will create a positive and engaging environment for the public, and by so doing showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between law enforcement and the community.


Given the above, the Chairman of the SWAN Anambra State Chapter Mr Chimezie Ananso thanked the CP for receiving the Association and expressed readiness to partner with the Command to actualize its goals. Consequently, the Command and SWAN is reviewing the Proposal to enable them to select the participants and the theme of the competition accordingly.


CP Orutugu's commitment to community policing and public engagement is evident in his efforts to partner with various stakeholders, to end violent crimes in the State.
