 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Suspended Rivers Governor Fubara Denies Militant Group Links, Condemns Fake Videos


Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has vehemently denied allegations linking him to militant groups, dismissing recent social media posts and videos as malicious attempts to incite tension in the state. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara condemned the circulation of fabricated videos purporting to show explosions at oil and gas facilities in the state.


The statement emphasized that affected communities have debunked these claims, assuring that all critical infrastructure remains intact and operational. Fubara reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace in Rivers State, stressing that governance and development can only thrive in a stable environment.


He warned against exploiting the state's ongoing political crisis for ulterior motives and cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against spreading false information. Fubara urged security agencies to investigate and take decisive action against those responsible for spreading misinformation.
