 Nations that have qualified for 2026 World Cup Four countries have qualified and joined the three co-hosting nations, Canada, Mexico and the United States, as the early birds for the 2026 World Cup competition. The 2026 World Cup, scheduled for June 11 to July 19, 2026, will be the 23rd edition of the tournament and marks the first World Cup with three host countries.  A significant change for this tournament is the expansion to 48 participating teams, up from the previous 32.  The first team to qualify outside the host nations is Japan. Japan qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first nation outside of the co-hosts to do so. Their 2-0 victory over Bahrain on Thursday, March 20, sealed their spot. New Zealand qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on March 24, 2025, after defeating New Caledonia 3-0.  SANWO-OLU CELEBRATES CECILIA IBRU AT BOOK LAUNCH, BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION 


Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Dr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Ibru for her legacy and contributions to Nigeria's financial sector, describing her as a trailblazer and symbol of resilience. 


He praised Dr. Ibruā€™s remarkable contributions to the banking industry, highlighting her legacy of service, leadership, and transformation.


He stated this today in his goodwill message delivered by the Secretary to the Government of Lagos State, Barr. 'Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin during the launch of ā€œCeciliaā€, her autobiography, and ā€œOceanic Odysseyā€ held at Muson Centre, Lagos.


He emphasised that the insights shared in both books demonstrated that true success is not just about achievements but also about resilience, courage, and the ability to rise above challenges.


Encouraging everyone to read Cecilia with an open heart, he urged aspiring individuals to draw inspiration from its lessons as they pursue their dreams and strive for greatness.


 According to him, ā€œCeciliaā€ is more than just an autobiography, but a testament to the determination, leadership, vision, and transformation legacies of the author. 


He affirmed that Dr. Ibruā€™s journey is indeed laced with perseverance, having risen to prominence in the financial sector by breaking barriers that made significant contributions to the Nigerian economy. 


He noted, "Her story is one that must be told. She has remained a symbol of strength and resilience who navigated challenges with graceā€.


He reaffirmed his administrationā€™s commitment to literary works that educate and inspire and urged young professionals, entrepreneurs, and women in leadership to deepen their knowledge by reading the two books on the ability to rise in adversity. 


Governor Sanwo-Olu extended his congratulations to Dr. Cecilia Ibru on her birthday and commended her for documenting her lifeā€™s journey to ensure that her legacy continues to inspire future generations.


The books were reviewed by Dr. Lasisi Olagunju. 


With the presence of notable dignitaries, family members, and well-wishers including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Chairman, Elizade Motors, Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, they honoured her contributions to society by purchasing the two books.


 Also present was Dr. Ibruā€™s twin sister, Mrs. Lucy Lawrence, who joined her to cut the birthday cake.
