 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. GOV. SOLUDO CLARIFIES: BAN TARGETS NOISE POLLUTION, NOT EVANGELISM. (PHOTO).

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has clarified that his recent confrontation with a street preacher was about curbing noise pollution, not banning evangelism. A viral video showed Soludo ordering the preacher to stop disturbing the peace at a market, reminding him of the law against noise pollution.


Soludo's actions sparked criticism from some religious leaders and human rights activists, who accused him of infringing on the right to freedom of worship. However, the state's Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, dismissed these claims, saying the governor's remarks were misinterpreted.


According to Nwosu, Soludo was enforcing the Anambra State Public Health Law 2006, which prohibits excessive noise in public places. The governor advised preachers to conduct their activities in churches or designated locations where people can participate willingly without disrupting others.
