INDIA TRAFFIC POLICE INTRODUCE AIR-CONDITIONED HELMETS TO CURB THE HEAT. (PHOTOS).

In a bid to protect traffic police from extreme summer heat, the Avadi City Police in Chennai have introduced air-conditioned helmets on a trial basis. This innovative step aims to provide relief to officers working long hours under the scorching sun. The helmets are equipped with compact cooling systems powered by rechargeable batteries, offering up to eight hours of cooling relief. This initiative prioritizes the health and efficiency of traffic personnel, ensuring they can perform their duties comfortably.

The AC helmets circulate cool air within the headgear, significantly reducing heat stress and fatigue. With temperatures in Chennai often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, this measure is expected to enhance officer well-being. Delhi Traffic Police are also adopting similar measures, planning to distribute 2,000 AC helmets this summer. If the trials in both cities prove successful, authorities are considering expanding the program.

Along with the AC helmets, Delhi Traffic Police are introducing additional heat-relief measures. These include distributing Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets and conducting regular health check-ups for officers. The combined effort reflects a growing awareness of the risks traffic personnel face due to extreme weather and a commitment to improving their working conditions.

The move has received positive feedback from officers and the public alike. With cities like Ahmedabad and Vadodara having successfully trialed similar solutions, this initiative demonstrates the potential of technology to protect frontline workers. As India faces rising temperatures due to climate change, such measures could become vital for ensuring the health and safety of traffic police across the country.
