In furtherance to the Anambra State Law which seeks to promote Igbo Language and Culture every Wednesday, the Kenneth Dike Memorial Secondary School, Awka a mixed college under the leadership of its ebullient Principal, Dr.Uju Obigwe has advanced further in conformity with the law to showcase Igbo Language and Culture through dancing.
Her vision unfolded an inter house dancing competition among the eight houses in the densely populated school situated at Amikwo, Awka .
Also driven by the zeal to possess a dancing cultural troupe fit for export,Dr.Obigwe urged her co- principals and the general public to feel free to engage her school's cultural troupe in their various outings.
In her welcome address,the principal urged the state government and public spirited individuals to assist the college in equipping its laboratory, library,the renovation of its hall and the rebuilding of its fallen fence.
Dr.Obigwe further made a passionate appeal for the building of staff quarters for the principal and teachers for the effective running of the school.
In a speech, the member in charge of Awka zone, Dr.Njideka Okeke who represented the Chairman of the PPSSC, Prof.Nkechi Ikediugwu commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his positive thrust in the education sector which has yielded immense benefits.
Dr.Okeke spoke of the imperatives of dancing in promoting the cultural identity of a people and expressed delight in the vision of Dr.Obigwe.
In another speech, the state Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr.Vera Nwadinobi also spoke in support of Governor Soludo's education friendliness and the dynamism of Dr.Obigwe in organizing the dancing competition.
The chairman of the occasion who doubles as the Controller News FRCN, Purity FM, Chief Ndu Chris Nwannah eulogized Dr.Obigwe for her efforts to promote the Igbo culture through the dancing competition.
Chief Nwannah urged the students of the college to seek to excel like the late Prof.Dike whose legacies are legendary.
Others who spoke in favour of the vision of Dr.Obigwe included the PTA Chairman of the college, Pastor Chukwuemeka Dike , the Chairman of the Amikwo Youths, Chief Chukwujekwu Ajegbo, and an indigene of Awka, Chief Ike Ozoemena.
In the dancing competition, the Red House(Igwe Gibson Nwosu Ezeuzu House) was announced the winner.
Some of the Schools' Principals that graced the occasion were Mrs.Thecla Azubuike of Community Secondary School,Enugwu-Agidi,Mrs.Nwamaka Anekwe of Capital Secondary School, Awka,Dr.Ndidi Okeke of Girls Secondary School, Awka, among others.
