A Malawi court has ruled that controversial preacher Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, must be extradited to South Africa to face multiple charges, including rape, violating bail conditions, and contraventions of financial and aviation laws.
The couple, who fled South Africa in 2020 while out on bail, will remain in custody until they are handed over to South African authorities.
The charges against them include: Rape, Violating bail conditions, Contraventions of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, Contraventions of the Banking Act, Contraventions of the Civil Aviation Act and Contraventions of the Immigration Act.
The South African government has welcomed the ruling and vowed to oppose any appeal by the Bushiris.
