 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter.  ---Urges posting of teachers to the college


As the euphoria of the good governance displayed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo in three years gathers momentum,the Principal, St.John of God Secondary School,  Awka Rev.Fr.Malachy Maduewesi has joined the league of well meaning citizens of the state in appreciating the laudable gesture.


Fr.Maduewesi an active participant in the historic Pontifical mass held at the St.Patrick's Cathedral Awka to mark the three years in office of the governor,confirmed that the mammoth crowd that graced the occasion is a testament to the visible achievements of the present administration.


In a press statement in Awka,the cleric passed a vote of confidence on the administration of Governor Soludo and urged him to deepen his efforts to sustain the giant strides he has recorded in the area of security.


Fr.Maduewesi expressed gratitude to the governor for the advances his administration has recorded in the education sector where teachers have been recruited ,free education implemented for public schools in the primary and post primary schools categories etc.


Pledging the loyalty of the college to his administration,the manager requested for the posting of teachers to the college in critical subject areas such as Mathematics,Physics, Geography, Economics, English, etc to assuage the load of PTA paid teachers being hired by the college management.
