 Nigeria's Defence Minister Summons Service Chiefs Amid Surge in Attacks on Military Bases Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has urgently summoned the nation's top military leaders to a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja. The session addresses the escalating attacks targeting military installations, particularly in the North East region. The meeting includes key figures such as: - Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede - Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu - Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke - Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass - Representatives from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) The summons comes in response to recent deadly assaults by terrorists on military bases in the North East.  Ondo: NNPP Suspends Governorship Candidate and Running Mate


The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has indefinitely suspended its candidate for the November 16, 2024, Ondo State governorship election, Olugbenga Edema, along with his running mate, Rotimi Adeyemi.


Their suspension, along with that of a party chieftain, Isreal Ayeni, was announced following a meeting of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in Akure, the state capital.


According to the NNPP chairman in Ondo State, Pastor Peter Olagookun, the decision was made due to their alleged involvement in anti-party activities and violations of the party’s constitution.


Olagookun further explained that Edema took legal action against the party without first exhausting internal resolution mechanisms.


"The decision was based on suing in the name of the party without consulting the appropriate stakeholders at both state and national levels, as outlined in our constitution," he stated.


He added that Edema's actions, including bypassing internal conflict resolution procedures and engaging in activities against the party’s interests, led to the disciplinary measure.
