A political storm is brewing in Rivers State, as the State House of Assembly has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deliberately stalling the implementation of a Supreme Court judgment. The Assembly claims that the governor is obstructing the process of re-presenting the 2025 Appropriation Bill, a critical step mandated by the court's ruling.
According to Enemi George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information and the Assembly's spokesperson, the governor's actions are a blatant disregard for the rule of law. George challenged the governor to provide evidence of a letter he claimed to have sent to the Assembly, expressing his intention to present the appropriation bill.
The Assembly's allegations are rooted in a Supreme Court judgment that invalidated the state's 2025 budget. The court ordered the governor to re-present the appropriation bill to the Assembly for consideration. However, the Assembly claims that the governor has ignored their appeals and instead attempted to sway public opinion by casting the lawmakers as obstructive.
The Assembly has also accused the governor of orchestrating the destruction of their chamber and the Speaker's residence.
