Security Operatives of Abia Operation Crush Involved in Fatal Accident, One Dead

A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening in Umuahia, Abia State, involving security operatives of Operation Crush, resulting in one confirmed death and several injuries. The vehicle transporting the operatives veered off the road and plunged into a deep ditch at Ihie Ibeku along the Bende Road.

The accident involved personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Out of the ten operatives onboard, one NSCDC officer was confirmed dead, while eight others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia.

Eyewitnesses praised the swift response of a prominent Ibeku community leader, Akaraka, and other passersby, who helped transport the injured operatives to the hospital. However, road safety officials had yet to arrive at the scene, prompting calls for better road safety measures and emergency response protocols.

The Abia State government has taken notice of the incident, with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, monitoring the situation at FMC Umuahia. The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, also visited the hospital, offering words of support to the affected personnel.

Investigations into the cause of the accident and the condition of the affected operatives are ongoing, with authorities expected to provide further updates soon.
