13-year-old Oscar Hernandez was a stand out soccer player, so when he was contacted by his coach with a promising offer he jumped at the chance. The unnamed soccer coach contacted Oscar and spoke of sponsorship for his soccer abilities. He told Oscar he needed to speak with him directly and sensing a huge opportunity, Oscar and his family agreed.
Oscar's father dropped him off at the Los Angeles Metro Station at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28th. He would never see Oscar alive again.
The family said at first everything seemed to be fine. Upon arrival he spoke to his family and told them his coach was going to drop him off at home the next morning. It was the next messages that caused the family concern.
They said at 6 p.m. on Saturday they received a message from Oscar's phone saying he was going to a party. His father immediately forbade him going and stated it was time to come home. They received a reply saying Oscar would be in the North Hollywood area. This was the last communication the family had from Oscar's phone.
When the family contacted the Coach he could not give a straight answer on where he last saw Oscar. He told the family he thought it was in the Sun Valley neighborhood around 2 or 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The family then contacted the authorities and a missing persons report was filed.
Sadly, while investigating, authorities discovered Oscar deceased on a remote stretch of beach in Oxnard, California on Wednesday April, 2nd.
Police have not confirmed Oscar's cause of death and no arrests have been made at this point. Oscar's death is still under investigation and the family is praying for justice.
