 MAN SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR MURDER IN JOSEFA VILLAGE A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of 40-year-old Jabulani Kabide in Josefa Village, Saselamani. Siphiwe Hlungwani was sentenced by the Thohoyandou High Court on Monday, 24 August 2026, after being convicted of murder. The court heard that Hlungwani allegedly stole a cellphone from a relative of Kabide’s family. When the cellphone owner reported the theft to Hlungwani’s mother, he allegedly became aggressive and threatened her. Kabide, who was the cellphone owner’s cousin, confronted Hlungwani, leading to an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation. Hlungwani’s mother later allegedly warned the cellphone owner to hide, saying her son had left the house armed with a knife and intended to kill her. ATIKU, EL-RUFAI, AND TAMBUWAL MET BUHARI IN KADUNA AMID TALS OF ANTI-TINUBU COALITION. (VIDEO/PHOTO).

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal met with former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State on Friday. The visit was revealed by Imran Wakili, a supporter of El-Rufai, in a post on X, where he highlighted El-Rufai’s continued respect for Buhari.


The meeting coincided with reports of Atiku, El-Rufai, and Tambuwal engaging opposition leaders in Kaduna State as part of a broader political strategy. Atiku recently announced the formation of a coalition, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections. The coalition, unveiled during a press conference by the Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria, seeks to unite opposition forces to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC).


In a related development, Adewale Adebayo, a former Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, disclosed that Atiku and Obi are in discussions to join the SDP. Adebayo expressed confidence that, if aligned with the party’s principles, they could lead the SDP to defeat Tinubu and retire the APC in 2027. 


Meanwhile, Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), claimed El-Rufai is positioned as Atiku’s placeholder in the SDP should the PDP deny Atiku its presidential ticket.
