 Aguiyi Orders Investigation into Trans Nkisi Mining Site Over Environmental Compliance By Amaka Isikala The Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, has ordered an investigation into the environmental compliance status of a mining site at Trans Nkisi, Onitsha, following concerns over extensive land degradation and its possible contribution to the growing gully erosion threatening the community. The directive followed an inspection visit to the site on August 1, during which the commissioner was accompanied by leaders of the Trans Nkisi community. The visit formed part of the ministry's ongoing assessment of environmentally sensitive locations across the state in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's Fifth Pillar of Development, Environment and Urban Regeneration. DEVASTATING FIRE LEAVES TENANT HOMELESS IN ABA. (PHOTO).

A massive fire swept through a residential building at 74 Lagos Street, Obohia road, Aba, Abia State, on Tuesday, leaving its occupants without a home. The inferno, which started while residents were asleep, ravaged the entire storey apartment, causing immense distress among those affected.


Although no lives were lost, the fire's cause remains unknown. However, some residents suspect a sudden electrical spark in one of the rooms may have triggered the blaze. Quick-thinking youths and sympathizers at Obohia road prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses and shops.


The affected tenants have described the incident as a major disaster and are appealing to the Abia State government for assistance. Despite efforts to reach him, the Chief Fire Officer of Abia State, Nnanna Arua, was unavailable for an official statement.
