 The Cross River State House of Assembly has removed the Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Council, Hon. Theresa Ushie, following the adoption of a report by the House Committee on Judiciary and Public Petitions, and has directed the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) to conduct a bye-election within 30 days to fill the vacant position. Her removal was confirmed during Tuesday’s plenary session, with 19 out of 25 lawmakers voting in support. The process was initiated on June 10, 2025, after the House received a petition from eight councillors of the Bekwarra Legislative Council.  After deliberations, the House suspended Hon. Ushie for 90 days and asked the Vice Chairman, Hon. Egbung Odama, to act in the interim while an investigation was carried out. Presenting the committee’s findings, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Filipino Screen Legend Nora Aunor Dies at 71


Veteran Filipino actress and national icon, Nora Aunor, has died at the age of 71.


Her daughter, Lotlot de Leon, confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, without revealing the cause of death.


“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and a true National Artist of the Philippines,” the statement read.


Funeral arrangements will be announced later.


Nora Aunor rose to fame in the 1960s as a singer before becoming one of the Philippines’ most revered actresses. She was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022, the country’s highest recognition for performers.
