 Aguiyi Orders Investigation into Trans Nkisi Mining Site Over Environmental Compliance By Amaka Isikala The Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, has ordered an investigation into the environmental compliance status of a mining site at Trans Nkisi, Onitsha, following concerns over extensive land degradation and its possible contribution to the growing gully erosion threatening the community. The directive followed an inspection visit to the site on August 1, during which the commissioner was accompanied by leaders of the Trans Nkisi community. The visit formed part of the ministry's ongoing assessment of environmentally sensitive locations across the state in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's Fifth Pillar of Development, Environment and Urban Regeneration.  Lagos Pensioners Give Sanwo-Olu 14-Day Ultimatum Over Unpaid Entitlements


The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Lagos State chapter, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to address their grievances, including the non-implementation of the N32,000 pension increase and 57 months’ unpaid arrears from the 2019 Consequential Adjustment.


During a press conference on Wednesday, NUP Chairman Rev. Oluremi Johnson lamented failed attempts to engage state officials, stating:


“We’ve called, written letters, but they keep avoiding us.”


Vice Chairman Rev. Dr. Titus Gregory Aderemi decried the poor welfare of retirees, many of whom survive on as little as N5,000 monthly, despite years of service.


The union has threatened further action if their demands are not met, urging the government to respect its senior citizens.
