NFF Debunks Rumors of Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle's Contract Termination

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has categorically denied rumors circulating about the potential termination of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle's contract. Chelle's future with the team had been uncertain following the underwhelming results in March's 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

A top NFF official described the reports as "fake news," emphasizing that the executive committee did not convene a meeting to discuss Chelle's contract. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated, "There is nothing like that. I am a board member, and there has not been any issue raised about the coach's contract."

Meanwhile, Chelle is set to embark on a trip to Europe, where he will meet with Nigerian players and attempt to convince eligible players to represent the country. Top on his agenda is a meeting with Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri, whose chances of switching allegiance to Nigeria were boosted by an England snub during the last international break.

Chelle was appointed as the Super Eagles coach in January on a two-year deal, subject to renewal. His tenure has seen two matches so far, with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda and a 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe.
