Nigerian Navy Intercepts Over 1,300 Bags of Smuggled Rice in Ikorodu, Lagos
The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 1,306 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The operation was conducted by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT under Operation AWATSE during a routine patrol over the weekend.
According to Commodore Paul Nimmyel, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, the Navy’s Quick Response Team pursued the suspects after they attempted to evade a security checkpoint. The operation was successful, with no casualties reported.
The seized rice has been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service for further action, in line with standard procedures. The Navy emphasized its commitment to supporting statutory agencies in curbing smuggling and securing Nigeria’s maritime domain.
